About His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, President of Sierra Leone:

Since taking office in 2007, President Koroma's primary objective has been to increase economic growth in his country. President Koroma has done this by promoting direct foreign investment and private capital inflows into Sierra Leone from international corporations and strategic investors.

Under President Koroma's Agenda for Change, which is the country's blueprint for economic development, several companies have contributed to the newfound economic opportunity that has arisen in Sierra Leone over the past 4 years. Some companies include the lodging company Hilton Hotels, the utility company Joule Africa, and the mining company African Minerals. Through these efforts and the maintenance of a stable socio-political environment, many experts in the field of African development have claimed that President Koroma is laying a strong foundation which will be conducive to economic growth in Sierra Leone going forward.

About the American Foundation for African Children's Education (AFACE):

The sponsor of this event, the American Foundation for African Children's Education (AFACE), is a New York-based non-profit that focuses on repairing primary schools in West Africa. To date, AFACE has repaired 6 schools, which has directly bettered the lives of over 8,000 African children. AFACE is proud to sponsor this event and its members strongly feel that promoting economic development is the best policy a post-conflict nation such as Sierra Leone can employ to better the lives of its citizens in the long run. AFACE members believe the Closing Bell Ceremony at the NASDAQ is a great venue for increasing awareness of the dramatic positive changes that have occurred in this fast-developing West African nation.
